WHO ARE WE?

FEBCanada is an interdenominational, non-profit organization — incorporated in the Province of British Columbia in 1964.

As an autonomous member of FEBC International, the Canadian ministry publicizes and promotes the global Christian broadcasting network within Canada … and prayerfully and financially supports the missionary radio outreach of member organizations throughout the world, which are actively involved in the synergistic mandate of the Great Commission.

HOW DID WE BEGIN?

In 1945, three gentlemen (Robert Bowman, John Broger, and William Roberts) heeded God’s calling to “preach the Gospel to Southeast Asia” by incorporating in [December] the ministry as the Far East Broadcasting

Company. Within a few years, shortwave broadcasts were aired from the Philippines into China.

At the time of the ministry’s incorporation, Bob Bowman was a member of the Haven of Rest Quartet – which aired their musical programs on Christian radio stations throughout North America.

EARLY CANADIAN PRESENCE

Shortly before the U.S.-based ministry was founded in 1945, Canadians Gordon Brand and Rowlie Hill had the privilege of meeting Dr. Bob Bowman in Los Angeles (during their war-time military leave).

In 1953, the two British Columbians were encouraged by Dr. Bowman to begin promoting the broadcast ministry in Canada through the Rock of Ages Quartet – a Vancouver-based musical group, which Gordon was the bass singer; and Rowlie, the pianist.

For more than 20 years, the Rock of Ages Quartet introduced Far East Broadcasting to audiences throughout western Canada by conducting missionary musicals … and Gordon became the Canadian ministry’s first board chairman in April 1964.

In the early 1970s, friendship dinners were introduced in Vancouver … and with the help of the Quartet, their popularity quickly spread to other communities. Today, over 90 dinners are held annually from coast to coast – where people are informed about what God is doing through the radio ministry – which broadcasts in more than 100 languages, from 130 transmitters around the world.

The Canadian ministry’s head office is located in British Columbia’s Metro Vancouver area.
